Hedonistic and elegant.

The Querciabella estate “stands head and shoulders above the rest, it’s as simple as that” according to Antonio Galloni. This mesmerizingly beautiful wine comes from their Sangiovese vineyards across the Classico zone. Querciabella has practised chemical–free organic viticulture since 1988 followed by a transition to biodynamics in 2000. Since 2010 Luca Currado, of Vietti fame, has been a consultant oenologist. The wine maker, Manfred Ing previously worked at Vietti under Luca and brings an emphasis of site-specific winemaking that has not been championed elsewhere in Chianti.

"13.5% alcohol. First made in 1974, this is 100% Sangiovese from biodynamically farmed vineyards (since 2000, organic since 1988). Cherry red in colour, this is a really beautiful expression of Sangiovese with fine cherry, redcurrant and berry fruit, a dusty tannic structure, as well as notes of leather, juniper and dried herbs. There are lovely contrasts here between the fine, floral silky red fruits and the fairly substantial structure from the tannins and acidity. Such finesse, and quite a bit of ageing potential. It’s not an easy wine, nor is it seductive, but it has beauty." 94 pts, Jamie Goode

"The 2017 Chianti Classico is bright, floral and beautifully lifted, with lovely red berry and rose petal character. Pliant and supple, with terrific balance, the Querciabella 2017 is one of the more refined, restrained Chianti Classicos readers will come across in this vintage, with Radda very much driving the personality of the wine in its aromatic and red fruit profile. The 2017 finishes with terrific energy and nuance. This is the second vintage in which most of the wine was aged predominantly in 500L barrels and 30HL casks." 92 pts, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"Youthful ruby. Classy nose of sweet red fruit, oak and stones and hints of mint. Elegant, juicy and almost a little linear. A wine that contradicts the torrid vintage." 17 pts, Jancis Robinson
