Château Pontet Labrie
Jonathan Maltus is one of Bordeaux’ most pioneering and successful 100-point wine producers. Last year he approached us as he wanted to bring to market a very special new wine, and do so in a way new to Bordeaux and attractive to fine wine lovers...The Offer
Only 300 cases will be produced each vintage and sold on a strictly allocation basis (up to 2 cases each) for a three-vintage period. Other benefits include privileged direct access to the producer’s existing wine portfolio and exclusive wine tasting experiences in the US, UK and at the château. Given Jonathan consistently scores 97-100 points in good vintages, managing to impress both American and British critics equally, we feel very confident this will be a superb and unique addition to any fine wine portfolio. Larger formats are subject to availability for vintages already bottled.
Five Year Payment - fixed at £6,600 (£1,320 per case of 12 bottles) In Bond. 2 cases maximum annual allocation. You can choose to have the wine in magnums for no extra cost, and those taking a 2-case annual allocation can have 6x double mags (3l), 3x Imperials (6l), 2x Salmanazars (9l) or a Melchior (18l) at less than their cost (a flat 10% premium).
This offer is limited and may be withdrawn at any time.
“The 2016 Château Pontet Labrie is also 80/20 Merlot and Cabernet Franc, aged in 80% new oak. It has more limestone character in its blackberry, black raspberry, graphite, and crushed rock-driven aromatics. Some lavender notes, full-bodied richness, building structure, and a great finish all make for a killer wine. As I wrote regarding the 2015, here’s another hats off to Jonathan Maltus for another thrilling Saint-Emilion that’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring and thrill for 15-20 years. Drink 2022 - 2042.” 95+/100 Jeb Dunnuck (Feb-2019)
“The 2016 Pontet Labrie is a dark, sumptuous Saint-Émilion. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate and smoke all flesh out as this powerful, explosive wine shows off its personality. Full-throttle to the core, Pontet Labrie will thrill readers who enjoy luscious, bold wines. There is plenty to admire here.” 94/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan-2019)
“The blend here is 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, and the élevage was in 80% new oak. It begins with a rather shy character on the nose, all vanilla flower and cocoa bean, with a sprinkling of limestone dust. The palate shows a rich and broad texture, polished with a substantial grip underneath it, but with a very svelte and elegant bed of tannins. It feels cool and composed, the rich seam of tannins showing some impact in the middle of the wine, which remains silky and substantial at the same time. It carries the flavours of leather, coffee bean and degraded black cherry fruit. Overall, a delight, with a long and grippy finish." 95/100 Wine Doctor (Chris Kissack)
"...focussed and straight, with a classic, structured feel. Black cherries, cassis, crushed flowers, and building minerality all flow to a medium to full-bodied layered, pure and long red."
92-94/100 Jeb Dunnuck (May-2018)
"The 2017 Pontet Labrie offers a little more brightness, aromatic lift and red-toned fruit than most of Jonathan Malthus’ other wines. Hints of rose petal, lavender, mint and spice give the wine striking lift. This is another gorgeous wine from Maltus."
91-94/100 Antonio Galloni (May-2018)
