Clemens Busch Marienburg Auslese
A gorgeous, highly digestible Auslese.
James Suckling (June-2018)
The charming and self-effacing couple of Clemens and his wife Rita have gained a cult following over the past three decades for their laser-sharp, richly textured and terroir defined wines. Riesling is the king of grapes, the Mosel its most illustrious terrain and so produces its ultimate expression.
Nowhere in the world is the identification of vine, winemaker and produce more precisely defined, and nowhere have we found Rieslings to compare with these. This cheerful wine has a great delicacy, piquancy and drinkability, but its overall attitude is finesse. In the sweet versus dry debate, it’s worth noting that Clemens only uses natural yeasts, preferring each wine to find its perfect balance in each vintage.
"The 2017 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling Auslese is clear, intense and spicy in its slate and concentrated Riesling notes. Lush and sweet as well as pure, salty and piquant on the palate, this is an elegant, well-articulated and brilliant Auslese with ripe and juicy fruit, good mineral tension and remarkable finesse and purity. A gorgeous, highly digestible Auslese. Tasted from AP 1518 in May 2019." 94/100, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
