Domaine Andre Colonge et Fils, Fleurie
Andre Colonge is a 30 hectare domain run by two brothers Laundry and Samuel, it was originally started by their grandfather. They are set at the foot of the village of Fleurie and under the watchful eye of the Madone, they work 7.3 hectares of Fleurie vineyards on south/southeast facing slopes, that give them an annual yield of around 400 hectolitres of this wine.
They only use one vinification style: semi-carbonic maceration combined with whole bunch fermentation. Maceration lasts around 10 days. This allows the wine to get the tannic structure required for ageing. Bottling is after the Easter following the harvest, for a cellaring potential of 5 to 6 years.
- Deep ruby robe, shot through with shiny crimson tints. - Powerful and thoroughbred, the nose is a first hint of the potential and personality of the terroir: floral and spice aromas at the fore with lilac, violet and peppercorn harmoniously intermingling with hedgerow fruit, vanilla and caramel. - Complex, fleshy and creamy, the attack is mouth-watering, with silky tannins and very ripe black fruit. The powerful structure that still bears the stamp of youth comes through at the end with spicy, peppery notes that give great length.
"The 2018 Domaine André Colonge Fleurie could hardly be more different, being delicately perfumed, soft, silky and almost indecently succulent, crammed as it is with luscious red and black fruit. It’s such a great pleasure, Beaujolais as fine as this." Jonathan Ray Wine Spectator
