Domaine Prieuré Roch Clos de Vougeot
In 1988 Henri-Frédéric Roch, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and grandson of Henri Leroy, decided to create his own exclusive domaine from some of DRC’s choicest parcels in Vosne-Romanée.
The vineyards are treated organically and hold only old vines (30-100 years), the domaine harvesting as late as possible in several tries, to maximise fruit and phenolic ripeness. The wines are vinified naturally, with whole bunch fermentation and punching down by foot, followed by no fining, no filtration and very light use of sulphur.
The resulting wines have a special purity and complexity which is hard to encapsulate. Vibrant, fresh aromatics and very bright acidity are balanced by superbly ripe, sophisticated fruit and spice flavours. Like the wines of other great minimal-interventionist producers (Vincenzo Abruzzese at Valdicava, for example), they can be enjoyed young but are also capable of long-term cellaring.
Stylistically they offer a unique balance of vigour and wisdom and (unsurprisingly given the calibre of their vineyards) the quality is always outstanding.
The Cistercian monks of the abbey at Cîteaux created the vineyard of Vougeot on the banks of the Vouge in 1100. They planted pinot noir and entrusted the vines’ tending to their lay brethern. The Clos itself takes its’ present name from 1330 when it was walled. During the pontificate of Pope Clément VI (1342-1352), the monks subdivided the Clos into three large ‘climat’ (plots) defining three different wines: “cuvée du pape”, “cuvée du roi”, and “cuvée des moines”. During the revolution, the Rhine Army, led by Colonel Bisson, marched on the prestigious vinyard, and took it in the name of the French state. In 1818 the Clos was aquired by banker Gabriel Julien Ouvrard. In 1889 his inheritors divided the property, selling it piecemeal to some fifteen wine merchants of the region. The partitioning had begun.
Situated in the commune of Vougeot close to the source of the river Vouge, the upper part of this terrain is gravelly and pebbly, the lower part more claylike, however, the soil remains very filtering. The total surface area is approximately 50 hectares, devided into 84 separate plots. Domaine Prieuré Rochs’ plot is situated in the “terroir royal” and covers 0.6236 hectares.

Fast Delivery takes 1-3 working days and costs £12.50 for orders under £75. Orders over £75 are subject to Fast & FREE Delivery.
Same Day Delivery London is available to most London postcodes as listed in our T&Cs, if ordered by 11am Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). For orders over £75 London Same Day, delivery is charged at £15. For orders under £75 London Same Day, delivery is charged at £27.50. If ordered after 11am, you will receive your order on the next working day. We may be able to organise a speedy courier for you, so please call or email us if you have special requests. Saturday Delivery costs £30. This option is available to all UK mainland postcodes for orders placed between 1pm on Thursday and 1pm on Friday. This is optional at checkout, to be chosen in place of our standard 1 – 3 working day service. If you specifically need to place an order for Saturday delivery outside of the above times, please contact us at email@example.com and we will see if we can arrange this for you.
Our Club Offers may take longer to ship, as we collect all of our members’ orders together before ordering them from the winemaker. The expected delivery timelines for each product should be specified on the product page. Otherwise, please contact us for the information.
