Edouard Delaunay Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Over the hills and far away to the Haut Cotes…. And a kaleidoscopic tasting with Laurent Delaunay at the family’s beautiful Chateau de Charmont. 28 wines tried – from Bourgogne Aligoté (absolutely outstanding – who needs Chardonnay?!?) right through to Echezeaux and Clos Vougeot, with many highlights across appellations and crus. The choice of parcels, and pragmatic approach – where every cuvée is treated individually without a set formula for quantity of new oak, or amount of whole bunches used etc, allows each wine to offer a true and deeply satisfying expression of the terroirs. Whilst the strength in Nuits Saint Georges is especially noticeable, there are some absolute gems throughout – and the consistent balance of succulence and focus, sweetness and salinity, authenticity and sophistication shows that there are great things ahead for Maison Delaunay. "From the limestone-rich, northern part of the Clos between the chateau itself and the most prestigious parcel owned by Chateau de la Tour. Five barrels made, with 50% wholes bunches and 60% new oak. Coffee, dried violets and a nice mix of red and darker pastille fruits – mashed red cherries and cherry bakewell. Palate has a fruit cake richness - red and black plums and currants, supple but substantial and long tannins give excellent grip. This is very convincing, already cohesive, with a fine finish and a closing note of liquorice. By a whisker my favourite of Laurent’s Grand Crus this year." Tom Harrow, Wine Guru
"Two new barrels out of four, 50% whole bunch, taken from older vines. Dense crimson purple, the bouquet has maintained freshness, better sample and the whole bunch. This is a very good example of Clos Vougeot: it may take years to show detail, but I like the balance. The oak is in proportion too, and there is more fruit at the back than through the middle. Fast Delivery takes 1-3 working days and costs £12.50 for orders under £75. Orders over £75 are subject to Fast & FREE Delivery.
Same Day Delivery London is available to most London postcodes as listed in our T&Cs, if ordered by 11am Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). For orders over £75 London Same Day, delivery is charged at £15. For orders under £75 London Same Day, delivery is charged at £27.50. If ordered after 11am, you will receive your order on the next working day. We may be able to organise a speedy courier for you, so please call or email us if you have special requests. What a great way to get that wine to your office or home for the evening!
Saturday Delivery costs £30. This option is available to all UK mainland postcodes for orders placed between 1pm on Thursday and 1pm on Friday. This is optional at checkout, to be chosen in place of our standard 1 – 3 working day service. If you specifically need to place an order for Saturday delivery outside of the above times, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see if we can arrange this for you.
Our Club Offers may take longer to ship, as we collect all of our members’ orders together before ordering them from the winemaker. The expected delivery timelines for each product should be specified on the product page. Otherwise, please contact us for the information. Deliveries for the wines on our Grower List cost £25, and can take 2-3 weeks. Please let us know if you have an urgent request and we’ll do our best to help.
International deliveries are subject to international delivery fees specific for each country, which will be added at checkout based on the country of your delivery address.
