Tua Rita Bosco dei Sugheri
"The Tua Rita 2017 Bosco dei Sugheri is a surprise hit in this tasting and is one on of my favorites in terms of immediate drinking pleasure. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, and this is a formula that works extremely well along the Tuscan Coast (some of the most celebrated wines in nearby Bolgheri use this same blending blueprint). This vintage saw a cold spring with frost in many parts of Tuscany (but luckily not in Suvereto), followed by a very hot and dry summer season. These factors contributed to a general reduction in quantity, and some of the growing challenges make this what industry-insiders call an "annata degli enologi," or a year that the winery team proves their worth. The trick was to work on the softness and the texture of the wine (with 22 months of barrique aging) to avoid some of the bitterness that can come from uneven ripeness in a hot vintage. This wine is already on the market (with only 5,000 bottles made) and hence has completed the necessary cellar aging time to integrate. It pops out bright and beautiful. It puts on a great performance thanks to those penetrating aromas of dark fruit, spice and roasted espresso. The results are balanced and spot on. I finished the bottle with dinner." 95 pts, Monica Larner, WA
