Vieux Château Mazerat, Saint Émilion Grand Cru
"A new acquisition by proprietor Jonathan Maltus, who sold Grand Destieu in order to upgrade to this terroir, this 10-acre vineyard is planted with 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc. It is situated near several of the premier grand cru classes of St.-Emilion, including both Beausejours and Angelus." Robert M. Parker, Jr.
"This was our first vintage of this wine. In 1996 we bought the vineyard that is Le Dome from Vieux Chateau Mazerat, so to have the chance to purchase the mother-vineyard twelve years on was a great opportunity. It is for this reason that Vieux Chateau Mazerat’s label is the reverse of Le Dome’s – Ying and Yang. The same viticulutral and vinification practices as for Château Laforge are applied. It got 5 stars from Decanter on it’s first outing – along with only two other Saint Emilion’s – Cheval Blanc and Ausone. Again, this 12 year old is beautifully ripe for drinking. While it has a bigger tannic presence, the bouquet opens up delightfully after decanting the and velvety structure shows it has a few years in it yet." Jonathan Maltus
"New wine from Jonathan Maltus of Ch Teyssier, stamped with class. Fragrant, complex, well-extracted, fine tannins. Power and elegance. Old-vine fruit from a top terroir." 18.5 points, Decanter
"Very intense wine, packed with dark tannins, solid and powerful. It is leavened with great perfumes, while the overall effect is dark, brooding and concentrated." 93 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
