Wiston Estate Cuvée 2009
Wiston Estate has been owned and managed by the Goring family since 1743, and owners Harry and Pip have planted grapes on the fields since 2008. Its 6,000 acres straddle the chalky slopes of the South Downs and the flat clay soils of the Weald. The traditional Coquard press at Wiston is one of only four outside of France and is unique to the UK. Its large surface area and exceptionally gentle pressing enables extraction of the very highest quality. The estate has won numerous awards for their sparkling wines and were dubbed ‘Winery of the Year’ at the WineGB Awards in 2018 (the most important competition for the English and Welsh Wine Industry.)
With enticing notes of fragrant English orchard fruits, white chocolate, nougat, toasted hazelnuts and brioche, Wiston Estate’s Cuvée 2009 shows impressive depth and complexity, whilst retaining Wiston’s signature precision and elegance. Displaying a delightful creaminess on the finish, this wine is drinking beautifully now, yet also has great ageing potential.
“Lovely well integrated and persistent creamy mousse. Excellent aromas of brioche and hazelnut nose showing lovely combination of autolysis and bottle age. Palate has an impressive weight of fruit. Incredibly balanced structure leading to an endless finish, and will continue to age.” International Wine & Spirit Competition 2018
“Softly scented freshness has hints of lemon zest and ripe yellow apple. On the palate , these flavors unfold and are joined by a well of creamy depth that lends another dimension to freshness and fruit. This echoes with richness and aromatic complexity: st one, earth, yeast and citrus create layers of flavor and expression. Savor this, and let it happen to you. The finish is seemingly endless. Lovely now, certain to develop. Drink 2018 – 2028.” Anne Krebiehl MW, Wine Enthusiast October 2018
