Storm Wines Vrede Pinot Noir

Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, South Africa

Smooth Red

Pinot Noir

Honest Grapes holds tastings where our long list of new wines is tried and tested by our Crew Members, and the Storm Vrede Pinot Noir has been one of the absolute favourites over the years.

"The 2015 Pinot Noir Vrede has slightly darker fruit than the Ignis this year: dark cherries, boysenberry and wild hedgerow scents that are neatly enmeshed with the 25% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation. There is plenty of sappy red cherry and raspberry fruit here; it is saline in the mouth with a pinch of black pepper on the finish that has a touch of more structure and backbone."
92/100 Wine Advocate (Apr-2017)

This is undoubtedly one of our favourite wines and comes highly recommended indeed!

Storm Wines

At Storm Wines our intention is to create balanced wines that have poise and elegance with underlying structure. This wine “speaks of purity” with a linear and fruit focus with violets and rose petals on the nose. Special toasting was added to the French oak barrels. There is 25% new oak and the perfume is in the background. The wine is a dark plum colour, no yeast was added and is unfiltered. The wine is well balanced and fruit driven with a chalky end. We aim to create those wines that can be enjoyed with family, friends and great cuisine.

Storm Wines

Hannes Storm earned his stripes at a top winemakers in the Western Cape, South Africa, but his passion for wine has led him to set up his own boutique winery Storm Wines, having found a couple of small vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Meticulous viticulture, minimal intervention in the cellar and a constant nod to the Old World present the wines with a warm personality and character. With the maiden vintage for both vineyards in 2012, Storm Wines continues to craft, perfect and guide the grapes from their unique terroirs into very distinctive site-specific wines. Standards have to be high as he’s competing with his brother Ernst, a winemaker in California.
