Here in the province of Foggia among the ruins of the antique Herdonia you can still get a glimpse of antique wine anphoras buried in paths of the "macellum" a roman market on the Appian Way that once connected Rome to Taranto..The new period of winemaking starts at the beginning of 18th century when landowners realised that possibilites of exporting these wines to the rest of Europe and the Mediterranean. In a few years many wine cellars were built and soon the area became known as the cellar of Italy. Here is where Fujanera lies and outside the manor house is a stone statue of Saint Michel the guardian of the eight hectares of vineyards and oliveyards which surround Fujanera Estate.
