Tollot-Beaut Corton Grand Cru
Founded in the 1880s, Tollot-Beaut remains amongst the best value and consistently rewarding growers in the Cote de Beaune. They were one of the first to begin domaine bottling their wines in 1921 and now 24ha strong, helmed by fifth generation Nathalie Tollot, with assistance from her father, uncle and cousins, this remains very much a family affair. Based in Chorey-Le-Beaune, they also have holdings in Aloxe Corton, Savigny and Corton itself (as well as a terrific 1er Cru Beaune ‘Greves’ – one of my favourite hidden gem vineyards). Dependably showing pretty and charming, supple red fruits, the recent solar vintages have shone a light (literally) on the those appellations around the foothills of Corton traditionally known for more rustic styles, and the domaine’s wines have taken on an extra richness and depth, with plusher, more sophisticated and structured tannins. They remain very attractive and attractively priced too.
"Rich deep black purple. Super-concentrated, with enough acidity behind. Morello cherry and deep raspberry, but manages to stay light enough on its feet. More red fruit right at the finish and good acidity. 14.2% alcohol and pH 3.38, this can work! Tasted: October 2020" 91-94 pts, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
"The 2019 Corton Grand Cru comes from the lieu-dit of Les Combes, although that is not indicated on the label. It has a nicely focused bouquet of morello cherry and raspberry coulis scents, infused with pressed iris aromas. The medium-bodied palate offers grainy tannins on the entry. Crisp black fruit laced with blood orange leads to a lively finish that just needs a little more on the aftertaste." 90-92 pts, Neal Martin, Vinous
