Wines Cabernet Franc
The Cabernet Franc Grape
Cabernet Franc is a bit of a heavyweight in the wine world: a global black grape variety, principally grown for blending in the Bordeaux style, a single varietal particularly in the Loire, France, and it is a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. Ripening a little earlier than its offspring, Cabernet Franc is often planted as an insurance in case Cabernet Sauvignon doesn’t fully ripen. It is in the world’s Top 20 of grape varieties planted. Found in the USA, Canada (where it is getting a reputation as a great Ice Wine), China, Kazakhstan, the Southern Hemisphere New World and of course Europe.
