Villa Sparina

Villa Sparina is a family estate in the Gavi district of Piedmont, an area that has specialised in growing Barbera and Dolcetto and most notably the white grape Cortese for more than 1,000 years. Owned by the Moccagatta family, this fantastic estate regularly produces the finest expressions of these grapes and can now promote its wines through its Michelin-starred restaurant La Gallina and Ostelliere, Sparina's boutique hotel, both situated in its sumptuous grounds.

The Barbera Grape

The Barbera Grape is preeminent in the Asti and Alba areas of Piedmont, Northern Italy. This is an easy-drinking, lighter-style of wine full of fruits (cherry, strawberry, plum and blackberry) and a hint of spice. Meant to be drunk young as it has soft tannins, its crispness creates a red wine which is great with food. When aged in oak barrels, the wines can be medium to full-bodied and are more capable of cellaring.
