Villa Sparina is a family estate in the Gavi district of Piedmont, an area that has specialised in growing Barbera and Dolcetto and most notably the white grape Cortese for more than 1,000 years. Owned by the Moccagatta family, this fantastic estate regularly produces the finest expressions of these grapes and can now promote its wines through its Michelin-starred restaurant La Gallina and Ostelliere, its boutique hotel, both situated in its sumptous grounds.

What to drink with... barbecue.

Always harder to prepare than they look, when done well barbecues are a real event. The more succulent the meat, the more tannic the wine. If you’re easily distracted and have to hide those burnt edges under the parsley, then go for a smooth wine. Barbecues tend to be social occasions and your guests are more likely to enjoy your company than analyse the wines.
