Weingut Schnaitmann Simonroth Lemberger Dry
"wonderful with venison and other rich dishes that combine meat and fruit"
Investing in Schnaitmann’s wines is picking not just a star in the making, but an experienced winemaker who is pursuing a ‘Schwäbisch’ or Bavarian philosophy to create a highly collectible and distinctive style of wines. Huge care and attention in the vineyard, following organic principles, then a highly flavour extractive vinification (plenty of whole bunch fermentation and concentration). There’s only low use of barrique, with conditioning coming from vats and large old oak tonneaux. This leads to powerful and intense wines where the fruit is allowed to dominate, alongside earthy, spicy and herbal flavours. Rainer's Lemberger (Blaufränkisch) has very deep purple / red, dark forest fruits, almost Italian in the way in which the fruit forms its core. Profound brooding forest fruits, compost and leafy forest floor, intense fresh dark fruit with a long finish. Exciting wine. This will be wonderful with venison and other rich dishes that combine meat and fruit.
