Wine Guru Summer Selection
Angus and Luke have put together a Summer Selection for you to enjoy over the summer and beyond!
For your Rosé we're recommending this fabulous pink from Lebanese pioneers Massaya, whilst your whites come in the more familiar form of New World Chardonnay, Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc and a lovely Languedoc Viognier. Onto the reds - we've included a really fresh and vibrant German Pinot that can be served chilled, alongside the incredible 95-point PerSe Inseparable that shows the more elegant side of Malbec (though still a winner with the barbecue!).
Bercher Burkheimer Spätburgunder Village, 2017: "Pure volcanic soil, two weeks' skin contact, big oak ageing. Smoky bacon and cherry jam. Does the cancan in your mouth, high kicks and energy and delicious ripeness. Fruit with a candied edge is the whole message. Sinewy gymnast tanning and rounded muscle. This actaully chuckles at you. Fresh, fun, mouth-watering, a wine to chill and drink in summer. Real pleasure wine." Tamlyn Currin, Jancis Robinson
Cuvaison Estate Chardonnay, 2018: "This has attractive, orchard-fruit aromas with a gently mealy edge. The palate has attractively fresh and easygoing pear flavors. Drink now." 90 pts, James Suckling
Domaine de l'Ostal Viognier, 2019: The nose is expressive, unveiling notes of apricots and candied orange, mixed with floral touches of honeysuckle and almond. On the palate, it is wonderfully fragrant and marked by a great finesse. It offers an intense, fresh and well-balanced finish, both smooth and slightly acidulous.
Massaya Rosé, 2019: A gorgeous strawberry colour, with aromas of red berry fruits and subtle spice. Beautiful freshness thanks to vineyards’ altitude.
PerSe Inseparable, 2018: "[...] Savoury aromas on the nose, with intense cassis, notes of cherries, spice and violets. Tightly coiled black fruit and fine-grained tannins on the palate, opening into intense black berry fruit, with juicy cherry notes, spice and savoury/gamey undertones, but with lovely freshness and a mineral backbone. [...]" 95 pts, Julie Sheppard, Decanter
Domaine Thibault Pouilly Fumé, 2019: A fresh and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley, with a brilliant green-yellow colour. The palate is rich, yet fresh with notes of citrus, apple, blackcurrant leaf and a smoky finish. This Pouilly Fume goes very well with oysters, goat cheese and seafood.
