Angus' Summer Case
With a lot of us unfortunately not going to make it on holiday this year, I thought it was pertinent to create my summer drinking mixed case to be enjoyed in the British summer sun (hopefully!). I've put together a selection of staples in my wine-rack during the summer months and I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I do! If you have any questions about any of the wines, please do contact me.
First off we have our versatile award-winning Pol Couronne Champagne. We've put this up against countless other Champagnes at similar price points, but the Pol always comes up trumps with thirst quenching notes of grapefruit and lemon along with a touch of roasted almond - delicious. Next up we have the wonderful Domaine de l'Ostal Viognier, I am personally a massive fan of Viognier and this is a great example displaying vivacious notes of ripe apricots, orange peel, white flowers and honeysuckle. This full-bodied and heady example is well balanced and extremely moorish. Some of the best value wines to be had come from Portugal so I felt obliged to put the vibrant Lavradores Branco from the Douro in my case with crisp notes of citrus, pineapple and peach, a perfect sitting on the patio on a summers' day quaffer.
I couldn't forget a rosé so I've put in the decadent Villa Sparina Chiaretta Rosé from Piedmont, Italy, not only does this taste extraordinary, the pink amphora bottle will certainly be a talking point at your next garden party. Finally, we are onto the two reds (yes reds can still be drunk in the summer months!), first up a favourite of mine for many years; the La Giaretta Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore. This sophisticated quaffer is a Valpolicella that's been passed through the skins of the great Amarone which adds complexity, intensity and structure to the wine. It's very versatile when it comes to food pairings and has lots of red cherry and forest fruit notes along with bright acidity and a long smooth finish. The final red I've gone for is perfect for your BBQ'd meats; the Pinzellada Negre from our good friends Cellar Alimara in Catalonia, Spain, represents great value and has abundant notes of black fruits, vanilla and hints of coffee. Yum!
Due to high demand we've temporarily increased our standard delivery fee to £12.50 for orders under £75 - orders over £75 still come with free delivery!
We are also no longer able to guarantee “Express" next day delivery. We hope to have this back up and running as soon as possible but in the meantime, our deliveries will take a little longer than usual (roughly 2-3 days).
