Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino
The bouquet offers similar stamina and vigor, with thick layers of dark cherry and blackberry.
- Tuscany, Italy
Brunello di Montalcino Castello Romitorio is what truly represents Romitorio: the fruit of more than thirty years of work in harmony with nature in the Montalcino terroir. This wine purely expresses the territory of Montalcino and embodies the best of the ancient local tradition of cultivating an excellent Sangiovese. The Romitorio company is located in the northwest quadrant of Montalcino where this classic Brunello is produced from Sangiovese grapes carefully picked and selected by hand on the counter, before and after destemming. The wine ages in oak for about 24 months and after bottling it is aged in the controlled-temperature cellars of Castello Romitorio for another 12 months or so before being put on the market.
"Castello Romitorio's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a dark ruby color with beautiful garnet-like intensity. The bouquet offers similar stamina and vigor, with thick layers of dark cherry and blackberry. Spice, tobacco and cola also play big roles in this ensemble. The bouquet ultimately offers more immediacy than the mouthfeel, which is still tightly wound and compact at this young stage in the wine's life. This tells me that the wine has plenty of wiggle room for a successful aging future." 93+/100, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"There's a purity and clarity of fruit in this young Brunello. Cherry and berry character follow through to full body, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows depth and intensity. Drink in 2020." 94/100, James Suckling
