Château Pontet Labrie
- Bordeaux, France
"Hold onto your hats with this 2015 Château Pontet Labrie as it's an incredible Saint Emilion that does everything right!”
Jeb Dunnuck (the 2015 vintage)
"As always this is a blend predominantly Merlot, picked on October 1st, with the complementary Cabernet Franc picked on October 12th. The alcohol is 15%, the highest figure in the Maltus portfolio (only by 0.1% admittedly) with a pH of 3.65. The nose is filled with wonderfully perfumed and grilled blackcurrant and black bean fruits, with a touch of limestone dust, along with praline, tobacco and macerated cherry. A rich, bold, substantial and brad palate, with a very polished, creamed fruit substance running though the middle, and a peppery substance and energy. It is rich, with grilled balckcurrant, grilled damson and currant fruits through to the very end, all wrapped an svelte and tightly knit tannins. A high-alcohol model here, but one that is substantial and imposing in style. The élevage will be in 80% new oak." 94-96/100, Chris Kissack, The Wine Doctor on Pontet Labrie, 2018
Jonathan Maltus OBE is one of Bordeaux’ most pioneering and successful 100-point winemakers, famous for his single vineyard cru wines which are consistently highly-rated on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2015 Jonathan approached us as he wanted to present a very special new wine: He has one last boutique vineyard, Pontet Labrie, on the plateau in Saint-Émilion on some of the best soils in the region, with old vines (some pre-’56), surrounded by Grand Cru Classé châteaux. The entire production is available exclusively from Honest Grapes.
Only 300 cases will be produced each vintage and sold on a strictly allocation basis (up to 2 cases each) for a three-vintage period. Other benefits include privileged direct access to the producer’s existing wine portfolio and exclusive wine tasting experiences in the US, UK and at the château. Given Jonathan consistently scores 97-100 points in good vintages, managing to impress both American and British critics equally, we feel very confident this will be a superb and unique addition to any fine wine portfolio. A three Year Payment for the 2018-2020 vintages is fixed at £3,960 In Bond.
Two cases maximum annual allocation. You can choose to have the wine in magnums for no extra cost, and those taking a 2-case annual allocation can have 6x double mags (3l), 3x Imperials (6l), 2x Salmanazars (9l) or a Melchior (18l) at less than their cost (a flat 10% premium).
