Clemens Busch Marienburg Kabinett
Clemens always manages to coax magic out of the Marienburg hill and the last three years have been no exception. Here we offer the first dry and sweet releases of 2019, the longer lees-aged top crus from 2018 and two freshly released, two-year lease aged reserve crus. Take your pick, it’s a veritable feast.
"For the sweet wines, in 2019, on the other hand, there was almost no botrytis, and the main harvest was significantly shorter, focusing on the first three weeks of October. The bit of botrytis was used for Auslese (which normally includes about 20% of botrytized grapes) and a TBA, yet there was not enough to also produce a BA." Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, August 2020
"The 2019 Marienburg Kabinett is pure, bright and fresh yet heavily reductive on the nose that displays a kind of slate perfume with white fruit aromas. Lush and piquant on the palate, this is a hedonistic Riesling with elegance, piquancy and stimulating salinity. A fabulous Riesling that tastes rather like a very digestible Spätlese, though. Good length, grip and salinity." 93 pts, Stephan Reinhardt, WA
"The effusive, fresh-herb and lemon aromas make this a fascinating and delightful Kabinett and on the palate it is super-clean and straight, the juicy sweetness beautifully balanced by mountain-stream freshness at the very stony finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold." 94 pts, James Suckling
"The 2019er Pündericher Marienburg Riesling Kabinett AP 26 (the auction bottling) was made from fruit harvested at 89° Oechsle in classical parts of the vineyard and was fermented in traditional Fuder cask down to sweet levels of residual sugar (70 g/l). It offers a stunning nose made of cassis, elderflower, herbs, whipped cream, pear, ripe yellow fruits, and fine spices. The wine develops the full-on suave yet engaging presence of a Spätlese on the palate and leaves a gorgeously fresh and crystalline feel in the long and superbly mouth-watering yet intense finish. This gorgeous Spätlese-styled wine will prove truly remarkable at maturity, in a decade. 2029-2059 (Reprint from Mosel Fine Wines Issue No 53 – August 2020)" 95 pts, Mosel Fine Wines, By Jean Fisch and David Rayer
