"...what I admire most about the 2008 is the way it shows all the focus, translucence and energy that is such a signature of the year, and yet it is also remarkably deep and vertical. In other words, the 2008 is a Champagne that plays in three dimensions." 98+/100 Vinous (Jul-2018)

"The best Dom since 2002." 98/100 James Suckling (Sep-2018)

"...masses of energy here, as well as the usual flirtatiousness." 18.5/20 Jancis Robinson (Jun-2018)

2008 was a suitably epic wine to signal the changing of the guard at Dom Perignon as Richard Geoffroy, maitre de cave at the maison since 1990, hands over the reins to Vincent Chaperone. I first tried 2008 at the official launch at the French Embassy back in June, the culmination of a vertical of 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009 and it made for a grand finale – combining many of the qualities of the different vintages in this exceptional decade for DP.

Repetition is the enemy” says Richard of vintages, “but re-invention is your friend” finishes Vincent, and 2008 is a welcome re-creation of 1996 which, also a muscular vintage and poised with pent-up energy, had similarly high expectations. However, critically 2008 was harvested later and at perfect phenolic ripeness – “08 is a ’96 on testosterone”, continues Richard. But alongside the evident coiled power, there is the classic Dom elegance, very pure and focussed aromatics juggling white flowers and smoke. The palate has great vibrancy and fine-boned oyster shell acidity.  Trust me - this going to be very special. /Tom, Honest Grapes Wine Director
