Domaine de Montille Beaune 1er Cru 'Les Greves'
Our visits to de Montille get (thankfully) longer each year as we continue to deepen our relationship with Etienne, Brian and the team. I can’t think of another address in Burgundy that has such strength in its domaine whites and Cote de Beaune reds (and the highly sought after Vosne Romanée ‘Malconsorts’ cherry on top) so we are delighted to carry a good selection from across their portfolio.
"This iron and clay-topped limestone vineyard which has vines two thirds of which are between sixty and eighty years old, is a perennial favourite of mine. Brian refers to it as a “Petit Pommard”, for its depth and minerality. Concentrated compact nose of plum skin and a ferrous, cedary note. Palate is juicy and intense, with great tension and dry richness - vibrant, fresh, penetrating and high-toned. Really shows the heights to which Beaune can ascend." Tom Harrow, Wine Guru
"A bold and intense edition with structure and richness in equal amounts. Juicy and intense with an iron lick on the finish that is beautifully lifted by the freshness of the vintage. Spice, cedar and a floral hint emerges with time in the glass, this is a wonderful wine that always punches above its weight." Nick Daniell, Wine Club Buyer
"Concentrated mid purple, one third whole cluster. Generous fruit, on the riper side in aromatics though still only 13% by analysis. Good tension behind, plums and slightly cooked raspberry. Interesting, and there is some potential, especially if the fresher aspects of the wine take the upper hand." Tasted: October 2021 90-93, Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
