Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 'Coeur de Roy'

One of the top five domaines in Burgundy, Dugat-Py also has one of the most impressive and extensive cellars in the region, originally built in 11th century for the Abbey of Saint Benigné in Dijon. Loïc Dugat, now 13th generation, is continuing the family tradition of making some of the greatest and most sought-after wines in Burgundy, from the family’s eleven hectares of perfectly sited vineyards, planted with vines averaging nearly seventy years old. Everything is done by hand, while a horse is used to plough a few of the vineyards. The domaine has been fully organic since 2003, with Loïc now working biodynamically across a number of sites. The wines are vinified with as little intervention as possible and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. In 2018 the use of new oak has been reduced which really allows the richness and depth of the fruit to shine through. Our tasting here in November was an undisputed highlight, the range from Bourgogne Rouge to Grands Crus uniquely thrilling.
This is the oldest parcel owned by the domaine, three hectares in three parcels, including right next to Lavaut Saint Jacques, and Clos Saint Jacques. Deep colour, bordering inky purple. Real spice and orange peel and a touch of ginger on the deep, dark fruited nose. Very rich, intense and dark palate, with toasty, positively aristocratic fruit, that you really feel high on the back palate. Sous bois and spice notes jostle on the resonant finish you. The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy is also showing very well, bursting with aromas of cassis, black cherries, dark chocolate, smoked meats, licorice and rich loamy soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and voluminous, with an enveloping core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, lingering finish. This is one cuvée where the better-integrated barrel régime and lighter touch with extraction really make themselves felt, and readers might wish to think of this year's Coeur du Roy as a baby Charmes-Chambertin. As usual, it derives from vines between 50 and 109 years of age located in the lieux-dits Epointures, Combe du Dessus, Jouise and Les Marchais. Assembled from several parcels of 80- to 100-year-old vines, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée Coeur de Roy" has an elegant, seductive bouquet of pure raspberry and wild strawberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe sappy red fruit, good structure and very well-integrated new oak toward the finish. This has good potential. 91-93/100, Neal Martin, Vinous
Loïc Dugat-Py combines grapes from three separate lieux-dits - Les Epointures, Combes du Dessus and Les Marchais - to produce this stunning, old-vine village Gevrey-Chambertin. Floral, dense and intensely coloured, it has 50% each of whole bunches and new wood, violet and aniseed aromas, succulent tannins and intense blueberry and black cherry fruit. Standard Delivery takes 2-3 working days and costs £7.50 for orders under £75. Orders over £75 are subject to FREE Standard Delivery. Standard and Express Delivery is available for most mainland UK postcodes as listed in our T&Cs. Express Delivery costs £12.50. Express delivery orders over £75 are £5.
For Express Delivery (next working day) orders need to be placed before 1pm. Orders placed after 1pm will be received after two business days. Orders placed for next day delivery after 1pm on a Friday and before 1pm on a Monday will be delivered on Tuesday. Orders placed on a Bank Holiday will be similarly processed the day after the Bank Holiday and delivered the following day.
Same Day Delivery costs £20. This option is available to most London postcodes as listed in our T&Cs, if ordered by 1pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). If ordered after 1pm, you will receive your order on the next working day. We may be able to organise a speedy courier for you, so please call or email us if you have special requests. What a great way to get that wine to your office or home for the evening!
Our Club Offers may take longer to ship, as we collect all of our members’ orders together before ordering them from the winemaker. The expected delivery timelines for each product should be specified on the product page. Otherwise, please contact us for the information.
