Jane Eyre Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Corbeaux'
Last year we visited Jane in her former shared premises in Bligny, but 2021 has rung in the changes. As well as being awarded a second star by La Revue du Vin de France (a sort of Michelin equivalent for winemakers) and then winning their coveted ‘winemaker of the year’ (first woman and first foreigner to do so), Jane has now moved operations to new premises across and along from Volnay in Cissey. This should give her enough space to expand production and also host the growing number of admirers of her wines. We have a slightly more limited range to offer you from 2020 as several of her contracts were not renewed this year (including the Chassagne Montrachet and Santenay 1er Cru) and overall yields were down. However what is lacking in quantity is more than made up for in quality. Jane began the harvest on 27th August, later than some, but there is no lack of freshness or tension in the wines. They are certainly rich and definitely age-worthy, but still show her trademark supple tannins, perfumed fruit and approachability.
The parcel, one of Gevrey’s most northerly, touches some of the best vines of Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru.
One of the vintage’s star wines last year, in 2020 Jane made only two barrels rather than three which means competition for allocations is bound to be ferocious. She used 50% wholes bunches.

Very intense purple with a richer bouquet, sweetly sensual rather than the more refined style of some Corbeaux, but with enough acidity behind to keep it on the straight and narrow.
