"the debut… ticked all the right boxes"
The Wine Advocate

Jonathan Maltus is one of Bordeaux’ most pioneering and successful 100-point wine producers. Last year he approached us as he wanted to bring to market a very special new wine, and do so in a way new to Bordeaux and attractive to fine wine lovers...

Further below are reviews of the 2016 vintage, and Honest Grapes Chairman Nathan Hill went to see Jonathan this summer - you can read his update, including tasting notes of the 2017 vintage here.

The Offer
Only 300 cases will be produced each vintage and sold on a strictly allocation basis (up to 2 cases each) for a three-vintage period. Other benefits include privileged direct access to the producer’s existing wine portfolio and exclusive wine tasting experiences in the US, UK and at the château. Given Jonathan consistently scores 97-100 points in good vintages, managing to impress both American and British critics equally, we feel very confident this will be a superb and unique addition to any fine wine portfolio.

Three Year Payment for the 2016-2018 vintages
Fixed at £3,420 (£1,140 per case of 12 bottles) In Bond. 2 cases maximum annual allocation. You can choose to have the wine in magnums for no extra cost, and those taking a 2-case annual allocation can have 6x double mags (3l), 3x Imperials (6l), 2x Salmanazars (9l) or a Melchior (18l) at less than their cost (a flat 10% premium).

This offer is limited and may be withdrawn at any time.

Reviews of the 2016
"The 2016 Pontet Labrie is the name for "Le Pontet" that I referred to in my 2015 report last year. Proprietor Jonathan Maltus had to change the name after some properties with titular similarities complained. This is a blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc cropped at 32 hectoliters per hectare on 10 and 14 October, respectively, and matured in 80% new oak. It has a ripe crème de cassis and blueberry-scented bouquet with flecks of dark chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite lively and with a sorbet-like freshness towards the finish. I was impressed by the 2015 last year, and this is a sterling follow-up."
92-94 Neal Martin for Wine Advocate (April-2017)

"The 2016 Pontet Labrie is deep, powerful and intense. Even with all of its overt fruit and intensity, it also has plenty of tannic underpinning. Bright acids lift this dark, powerful Saint-Émilion. Readers should note that Pontet Labrie was formerly known as Le Pontet."
91-94 Antonio Galloni

"The newest addition to the Maltus stable, previously called Le Pontet but now called Pontet-Labrie. The vines are 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, planted on 0.98 hectares across from Château Grand Pontet. Cropped at 32 hl/ha, although just 28 hl/ha after a saignée. The Merlot was picked on October 10th, the Cabernet Franc on October 14th. It has a dark and expressive nose, smoky, filled with currants, coffee and  roasted black beans. The palate is substantial, polished, impressive, with huge depth, dark fruits, dark chocolate, coffee and praline, along with bright acidity. Deliciously polished, bright, fresh with vibrant tannins, which give the wine a long, grippy, acid-fresh finish. Piles of flavour here, packed in wall-to-wall, and wrapped in a huge, glossy, voluptuous substance. An impressive result."
