Loire Valley Mixed Case

When French wines come up in conversation people usually think of the illustrious names of Burgundy and Bordeaux, but if there's one region that really deserves some time in the spotlight at the moment, it's the wonderful Loire Valley. Enjoy a taster across the magical wines of the region with this mixed case.

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine ‘Granite’ Domaine de l’Ecun, 2018: Very mineral and citrusy nose, with scents of iodine, citrus, yellow fruits and flint. The palate is deep, rich, concentrated, mineral and salty, with a iodized persistence.

Vouvray Sec ‘Les Vaux Louis’ Domaine Gilles Gaudron, 2016: Made from 30 year old Chenin vines, Domaine Gilles Gaudron Vouvray Les Vaux Louis Sec 2014 is rich and juicy on the palate with notes of pear and quince enhanced by an intense chalky minerality.

Coteaux du Layon ‘Passerillé’ Philippe Delesvaux, 2018: In the best area of the Coteaux du Layon, Catherine and Philippe Delesvaux make their Coteaux du Layon Passerillé by letting Chenin Blanc grapes cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics. We are fascinated by the balance of this wine, thanks to the concentration of sugars and the acidity and minerality typical of Chenin Blanc.

Sancerre Rouge Domaine Vacheron, 2017: Aromas of red berries with hints of orange zest. Peppery spice blends with ripe raspberry and pomegranate flavors.

Sancerre Rosé ‘Terre de Maimbray’ Pascal & Nicolas Reverdy, 2018: With notes of sour cherries, redcurrants and an underlying chalkiness, the pale coral-coloured Sancerre Rosé 'Terre de Maimbray' Pascal et Nicolas Reverdy 2015 is vibrant and fresh with a crisp acidity and a pleasingly long fruity finish.

Domaine Grosbois, Chinon Rouge "Cuisine de ma mère", 2018: Designed for food-friendly drinking in its flush of youth, this wine nevertheless shows pleasingly complex savoury feral notes on the nose alongside plush dark brambles. The palate is mid-bodied and just as layered, with lots of juicy ripe dark fruit wrapped around a meaty core, leading to a herbal finish. Perfect with light meat dishes and salads. Bags of juice here for the money.
