The festive season always brings the full breadth of eating and drinking, so for my case I’ve chosen bottles to cover all the bases, with the potential to see you sail through Christmas day and everything that comes with it! Kicking things off in style with some fine Premier Cru fizz to toast the start of the festivities. Next up is a fresh, stone fruited and softly herbal Passerina that will ease you nicely through pre-lunch/dinner nibbles with a lovely aromatic lift. A seriously over-performing Bourgogne Blanc classic from Girardin with depth, body and freshness in perfect balance. A great start to festive dinner, if like me you occasionally choose to drift seamlessly from white to red over the same dish. Ideal with creamy white fish, game birds or poultry. Onto the reds, two of our favourite estates in Chateau Teyssier and San Leonardo that provide an intriguing comparison of indulgent, yet versatile wines with mature complexity which makes them equally at home with roasted goose or a rib of beef. As an alternative to Port and cheese, try out this perennial club tasting highlight Amarone from husband and wife team Francesco & Francesca in Valpolicella – luxurious combination of fresh and dried fruits with richness and spice to see you through the latter part of the evening and will even work perfectly with that last mince pie… Merry Christmas!

La Torre del Nano, Donna Paolina Passerina 2019Yellow flowers, mirabelle plums - a fragrant, rounded wine, with a lovely crunchy yellow plum fruit, pleasing texture and finish. This will pair beautifully with light salads, white and cream cheeses and garden herbs.
Girardin Terroir Noble 2017 Light aromas of ripe lemon with a floral hint. A rich and elegant wine, with ripe, rounded stone fruits and buttery, creamy richness. Great balance between freshness and concentration of flavours.
Villa Gresti di San Leonardo 2015 "A very subtle, enticing red that shows dried blackcurrants, dried cedar, walnuts and tobacco. Finely spiced and structured with firm tannins and driven acidity. Drink from 2021.";92 pts, James Suckling
Chateau Teyssier 2015"Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Teyssier (a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) gives up lovely black and red cherries notions with cinnamon stick, fragrant earth and potpourri nuances.
