Nick's Christmas Selection
Here is my festive collection to get you through Christmas, with something for everyone all the way from my favourite regions in Italy and France. You have two very quaffable red and white wines - light, fruity and perfect with or without food. Then we move on to my best in class choices - a 1er Cru Chablis that will complement any fish or roasted white meat. Whilst for the red wine drinkers, I have the iconic Guidalberto (Ornellaia's little brother) to pair with any red meat, cheese or simply to warm the cockles. To complete the ultimate gift case, pop a cork of our much loved Cremant de Bourgogne to kick of proceedings, and finish off with La Giaretta Cor di Vin (our 'baby amarone') with your cheese platter and mince pies!
Domaine Nadine Ferrand Cremant de Bourgogne Selection "Very fine bead, fresh hazelnuts, white flowers and pear skin. Nice red apple and mandarin ripeness on the palate, a juicy sweet core with hints of toast crumbs, very juicy and harmonious with hint of lime meringue on finish. No harsh greenness given the low dosage. This is cracking." Tom Harrow, Wine Guru
Donnachiara Falanghina Beneventano IGT 2020 :"Pear skin and pear drops, lightly lactic, basil, lemongrass. Green and yellow apple, vein of chalky acidity, stony finish.” Tom Harrow, Wine Guru
Albert Bichot Fleurie ‘La Madone’ 2019 "The 2019 Albert Bichot, Fleurie ‘La Madone’ from a perfectly sited single vineyard is just so lovely and you’ll lap up the aromatic, succulent, fleshy Gamay fruit. I even chilled it a bit which, it being quite light, worked well. Not for nothing is Fleurie known as the Queen of Beaujolais." Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis Premier Cru ‘les Vaillons’ 2018 2018 "This has such fleshy and attractively ripe peach and lemon aromas with a palate that’s so precisely carved into shape, offering smooth-honed, rich, acid-cut lemons and white peaches. Some light hazelnut bread to close. Drink on release or hold." 92-93/100, James Suckling
Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2019 The alcohol content is not too much felt on the palate, thanks to the elegance of the tannins, which are well ripe, integrated and velvety. This is also supported by a good balanced acidity, which makes the wine approachable and pleasant to drink, even at a young age.
La Giaretta Cor di Vin 95 Rosso 2015 : The peculiarity of this wine is the drying on the vine: a late harvest. Start of the 15 months aging process in small French oak barrels. The chosen oak is a very special selection of woods from the best French forests (medium toast). After 5-7 months of bottle aging, the Cor di Vin 95 is ready to drink.
