With minimal intervention and low sulphur, no artificial chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides – the cornerstones of good organic winemaking – critics argue that you can actually taste this living environment, the wine’s ‘terroir’.

Most young winemakers come from families which have great viticultural tradition, but Pierrick Laroche’s father grew mainly cereals when he was a child. However, his first commercial vintage in 2010 - just 2,300 bottles - received top billing of three stars in France's wine magazine the Guide Hachette. This was a coup for a kid just out of the starting gate. England's MW Rosemary George praised his wines around the same time in 2012 at Chablis's annual post-harvest fair. She wrote: "His first vintage in 2010…. very good… with some firm, fresh minerality." This rare minerality in his Chablis also impressed his experienced peer, Didier Picq. Pierrick Laroche is definitely a name to watch in the coming years.
