Philippe Pacalet Vosne Romanée
- Burgundy, France
“Philippe Pacalet makes wines of clarity and focus” Wine Spectator (Feb-2018)
Formerly winemaker at the legendary Prieuré-Roch, Philippe makes strictly organic wines which are uniquely exciting, always 100% whole bunch, eschewing the use of sulphites and only using wild yeasts.
Not for the faint-hearted, Philippe’s wines are nevertheless truly special, visceral, uncompromising and muscular but fizzing with energy and alive with minerality.
From a single parcel, Au-Dessus de la rivière, close to Nuits-Saint Georges, and aged in large 600-litre barrels for extra finesse.
A vibrant and aristocratic nose with wild strawberries and rose petals. Palate shows beautiful sweetness and verve, classic Pacalet energy and texture, very succulent even with a touch of reduction, extremely sexy. The Chambolle runs it close, but this was my pick of Philippe’s village wines this year.
