Wine Shop - Sommelier Selection - JCP Maltus
JCP Maltus Jonathan Maltus OBE is one of Bordeaux’ most pioneering and successful 100-point winemakers, making waves on both sides of the Atlantic with his single vineyard cru wines. His winemaking journey started in 1994 with the purchase of a small vineyard in Saint Emilion: Château Teyssier. Over the years, he gradually added plots of land to the estate and now has over 50 hectares under vines. Jonathan was an early and significant player in the garagiste movement with the introduction of Le Dôme in 1996, a remarkable expression of predominantly Cabernet Franc that Robert Parker frequently rates in the top 90’s, including scores of 99 and 100 points for 2009 and 2010. Meanwhile, the 2008 single vineyard release of Vieux Château Mazerat was one of only three Saint Emilion wines to be awarded five stars from Decanter - alongside Cheval Blanc and Ausone. As Will Lyons of The Wall Street Journal and the Sunday Times commented, ‘What Jonathan has achieved in Bordeaux is nothing short of remarkable’. Jonathan’s last boutique vineyard is located on the plateau in Saint Emilion surrounded by Grand Cru Classé châteaux. The one hectare plot is planted with old vines (some predating 1956) on the best soils in the region. In the summer of 2014, Jonathan approached Head Wine Guru Tom to discuss offering the wine on a strict allocation-only basis directly to an exclusive clientele: our own Grand Crew and affiliates. An exciting collaboration was born with the project title "Le Chapeau" which has come to fruition with the launch of the Château Pontet Labrie. With Le Dôme winery (designed by Lord Norman Foster) near to completion, we fully anticipate Jonathan’s wines to greatly appreciate in value over the next decade. Now is the time to secure a case (or two) for your cellar and reap the benefits in the years to come.
