It's going to be an unfamiliar August, with many of us choosing not to travel abroad and instead stay at home. So I have put together a special Summer Mixed Case for you to expand your vinous horizons and keep your thirst for adventure satisfied from the comfort of your own home!
Champagne Pol Couronne Brut, NV: "A Champagne to pop open for a weekend brunch, this is refreshing and lively with a chiselled limestone structure and grapefruit acidity. Made from almost equal parts chardonnay, pinot meunier and pinot noir, the flavours are well-balanced. [...]." Stacey Smith, The Independent
Wiston Estate Rosé, NV: "Lovely vibrant fruit character with a rhubarb sort of element to it. Full of flavour and generosity - proper rosé with good concentration and purity. Good length, loads of potential - excellent." Richard Hemming MW,
Clemens Busch Riesling Trocken Marienburg Rothenpfad GG, 2015: "A zesty fragrance of grapefruit and lemon prepares for a truly invigorating Riesling experience. On the palate the citrus fruit takes on a delightfully sweet expression, which is perfectly balanced by animating acidity and rich texture. Accents of fresh kiwi fruit and orange peel serve only to heighten the sensory pleasure and complete a successful combination of generosity and vibrancy..." 18.5/20 Jancis Robinson
Villa Sparina Gavi Di Gavi Monterotondo DOCG, 2016: "Hard to imagine how Gavi can be much better than this; it opens with cloves, thyme, lemon meringue, white pepper, dried citrus and a touch of apricot flan and vanilla. Full-bodied and very oily, channeled along with energy by laser-sharp acidity. Long on the finish. Drink now." 93/100, James Suckling
La Giaretta Amarone Classico I Quadretti, 2015: An intense ruby red colour, a special body and a bouquet reminiscent of spices on this wine; nonetheless, the Amarone della Valpolicella “I Quadretti” retains the typical scent and flavour of cherry and wild berry. It goes very well with important main courses such as wild game, braised beef, grilled meat, any kind of cold cuts and mature cheese.
Château Laforge, Saint Émilion Grand Cru, 2011: "Copious aromas of graphite, sweet black currant and black cherry fruit intermixed with notions of underbrush, forest floor, camphor and Asian spice emerge from this complex, medium to full-bodied 2011. Loaded with color, fruit and surprisingly silky extract, it should drink well for 10+ years." 90-93 pts, Robert M. Parker, Jr.
