Vegan wines are simply wines made with no animal products. During the winemaking process, sediment is often removed from the wine by filtration and fining agents, some of which are made from casein, a protein found in milk. Winemakers can either choose to use plant-based fining agents, or not to at all, as is the case with some natural wines that take on an unusual cloudy appearance.
Wine Shop - Vegan wines - Clemens Busch
Clemens BuschClemens and his wife Rita are the charming and humble couple behind Clemens Busch, a winery that has gained a cult following over the past three decades for their laser-sharp, richly textured, terroir-defined wines. Among the first German winemakers to embrace organic farming in 1984, their estate fully transitioned to biodynamic production in 2005. They are members of the prestigious VDP organisation of the top producers in Germany. Our founder Nathan will take every opportunity to champion Clemens Busch. Having lived in Germany for many years, Nathan has had the opportunity to sample his fair share of Riesling but has never encountered anything that would compare to these gems. Following a visit to Pünderich, our Premier Crew Manager Luke was blown away by the quality and remarkable consistency of the Clemens Busch wines. Nowhere in the world is the expression of the vine more precisely defined. The multitudinous aspects of the grey and red slate slopes create very distinct microclimates across the vineyard. Each of the Clemens’ plots are vinified and bottled separately to produce between 30-40 different wines per vintage. Each label expresses a completely unique character despite being harvested only meters apart. Once more, only natural yeasts are used to ferment the wines giving them a perfect vintage-specific balance between fruit, structure and sweetness. Organic, biodynamic, vegan and genuinely special, this is a range that all wine lovers will enjoy and any Riesling aficionado should not miss.
