Nadine Ferrand has been at the helm of the eponymous Mâconnais winery since 1984. Starting without any vineyard or winemaking experience, Nadine took it upon herself to learn the essentials of the trade by enrolling in various training courses. With courage and ambition, she has transformed the Domaine into an award-winning 11.5 hectare estate dedicated to sustainable production. Joined by her daughter in 2012, the formidable duo completed a one million euro renovation of the property in 2018 including the construction of a modern tasting room.
Head Wine Guru Tom visited Domaine Ferrand on the recommendation of a good friend and Honest Grapes Grand Crew Classé member who has a house nearby. Marine Ferrand gave him a tour of the winery before pouring some of their wines for a very memorable tasting. From the Macon Blanc through to their prestige cuvees, each wine showed a racy acidity balanced by ripe fruit - not to mention a very encouraging price tag!
Specialising in Chardonnay alone, Domaine Nadine Ferrand produces wine across six appellations in Burgundy: Pouilly Fuissé, Saint Véran, Mâcon Solutré Pouilly, Mâcon Village, Mâcon Blanc et Crémant de Bourgogne . Despite a limited production of 70,000 bottles a year, the Domaine has gained international recognition exporting to over 10 countries worldwide. This passionate and aspirational mother-daughter team continue to innovate while remaining true to their family philosophy; "The Chardonnay, expressing itself with a feminine touch."
Vegan wines are simply wines made with no animal products. During the winemaking process, sediment is often removed from the wine by filtration and fining agents, some of which are made from casein, a protein found in milk. Winemakers can either choose to use plant-based fining agents, or not to at all, as is the case with some natural wines that take on an unusual cloudy appearance.
