With a history dating back to 1826, Château Léoville Barton produces wines of power and structure, reflecting the estate's gravelly terroir in Saint-Julien.

What the critics say:

93-95/100Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2024 Léoville Barton is a very beautiful wine. Black cherry, plum, lavender, new leather, graphite, crushed rocks, mocha and spice all meld together. A wine of classical build, Léoville Barton is also wonderfully deep and expressive. Today, all of its energy is directed inwards, but there is a lot of wine here. I can't wait to taste this from bottle. Tasted two times."

94/100Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

"Stands out for the elongated and supple shape and texture of the tannins, builds complexity over the palate and this is well structured, with elegant, finessed, savoury but carefully extracted cassis and bilberry fruits, with cocoa bean and cigar. One of the wines in the vintage with definition and ageing ability, and retains clear Léoville Barton character. Harvest 24 September to 5 October. 60% new oak for ageing."

93-95/100Colin Hay, The Drinks Business

"(St Julien; 92% Cabernet Sauvignon; 6% Merlot; 2% Cabernet Franc; 13% alcohol; tasted twice, first at the UGC press tasting at the Cité du Vin). This has a most gracious purple florality that I love, a hint of rose petal too and all of that signature Léoville Barton dark berry and damson fruit. Very classical and very refined, with oodles of cedar. There’s a lot of wine here in a vintage in which that is not something one says very often. Classicists will be very happy with this in a vintage that is perhaps easier for néophytes!"

OUR GROWERS

Château Léoville Barton

Third Growth Château Léoville -Barton is a model of a St Julien Bordeaux with typical restraint and elegance. The first of the two Bordeaux wine estates bought by Hugh Barton in the 1820s, it is one of the few chateaux that is still in the hands of the same family that was an owner at the time of the 1855 classification.
