One of the star releases from South America are the latest vintages from Patagonian powerhouse Bodega Chacra. Once again, the scores are sky-high - 96 points and above - but the prices remain unbeatable. In Burgundian terms, this is Grand Cru quality at village wine prices.
 
Founded in 2003 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (grandson of the Sassicaia founder), Chacra’s biodynamically farmed old-vine plots sit high in the Rio Negro Valley. The vineyards, planted in 1932, 1955, and 1967, yield wines of exceptional character and purity, vinified without fining or filtration and matured in up to 20% new Burgundian oak.
 
The whites meanwhile are made in partnership with Burgundian legend Jean-Marc Roulot of Meursault fame. The Chardonnay is planted on limestone rich plots, much like the finest vineyards of the Côte d’Or, imbuing the wines with an impressive geological intensity. These have more than a touch of Roulot purity and finesse to them.
