Sourced from vintage-quality wine spanning two or three harvests, the Bioma Crusted Port is a fascinating wine with no fining or filtration from the exceptional Vinha da Pisca vineyard, boasting vines over 80 years old.
Subtle notes of dark fruit, mainly blackberries and plums, the Bioma is powerful yet balanced, with a long, decadent finish. We definitely recommend a quick decant though to remove the natural sediment!
What the critics say:
"They are still selling the NV Bioma Vinha Velha Crusted Port that was bottled in 2014, before they certified it as organic (Bioma is the organic range), and comes from a strange category that not many producers make. It matured in oak for two or three years, but you have to wait for the bottles to throw a sediment, which takes at least three years. It's a blend of two or three vintages, and it turns into a lighter style of Vintage, with more oomph than LBV, very good value for money. It comes with 88 grams of sugar, has a bit of earthiness and still feels young, as it's evolving at a slow pace. I'd wait to pull the cork, because I like the perfume and complexity it develops with more years in bottle."
