Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.

We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these wines.

"The domaine’s vines are nearby Comte Armand’s Clos des Epeneaux. Deep, polished nose, with bold, clearly-defined aromas of cherry tobacco, damsons, blackcurrant, pressed violets and red earth. Headier, more subtle scents develop – dried oregano, sandalwood and stone dust. Broad, lateral attack spills in to a velvety, inky mid-palate, sappy and bright, juicy and focussed, with more spiced red berry character at the core, and stony, high-toned tannins and fresh acidity to keep everything in place."
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

What the critics say:

92-94/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Pommard Les Grandes Epenots ler Cru, which always has the lowest natural pH, has a very pure bouquet with red berry fruit and pressed rose petals - one of the best defined of the Domaine's cuvees. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, the acidity in some ways completely different from the other wines, vibrant and tensile. Ouite long and persistent on the finish, this delivers the complexity one expects from a Premier Cru."

91-94/100Allen Meadows, Burghound

"This is also exuberantly spicy with its mix of red currant, plum, earth and suggestion of exotic tea. As one would reasonably expect, there is notably more volume, but with less minerality, to the broad-shouldered and caressing flavors that flash very good power on the youthfully austere, balanced and built-to-age finish. *Outstanding* 2034+"

OUR GROWERS

Domaine Clos de la Chapelle

An exciting new addition to the portfolio, Domaine de Clos de la Chapelle is a fascinating revival of an old Burgundy domaine based around the eponymous, historic Volnay 1er Cru Monopole Clos de la Chapelle. Even trailblazing chemist Louis Pasteur was a huge fan back in the 1800s, placing a regular order for several dozen bottles of Clos de la Chapelle for his personal enjoyment.
