The history of Argiano continues to be written day by day, thanks to the energy of the new owners.

Long occupying one of Tuscany's most scenic sites, Argiano's Brunello is always one of the absolute stars of the south in Montalcino, no doubt partly due to the prevalence of the mineral-rich marl in its clay limestone soil, also found in the hill of Montosoli further north (the region's true "Grand Cru" according to Vinous' Eric Guido), lending the wines added finesse & complexity which sets them apart from their neighbours. There is always extra lift and freshness in the wines thanks to the cooling influence of the Mediterranean.

What the critics say:

94/100James Suckling

"Very attractive floral and fresh aromas to the plums and cherries, following through to the palate. Flavorful and gorgeous, yet lively and focused. Lovely 2017. Drink now or hold."

93/100Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"The Argiano 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of considerable bandwidth with lots of dark fruit, rich plum and spice. It carries medium fruit weight and concentration that proves more than enough to surround and soften the spicy oak notes and toast that also play an important role in this hot-vintage Brunello. The results are plump and slightly round, but you also get the acidity and the tannic structure of an age-worthy Sangiovese. Organically farmed fruit is selected from across the best parcels of the estate, and some of the vines are up to 55 years old. Production is 130,000 bottles, and I would recommend setting this bottle aside for near- to medium-term drinking."

Tenuta di Argiano

Argiano is one of the oldest and most beautiful estates in Montalcino (and was one of the members of the original Brunello Consorzio).

Although the estate is situated in the south of the region which tends to be several degrees warmer than vineyards to the north, the vineyards achieve good elevation and comprise a high percentage of the mineral-rich marl in their clay limestone soil, also found in the hill of Montosoli – Montalcino’s widely accepted “Grand Cru” site.
