The domaine was created in 1990 by brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol, whose father Jaques was based in Volnay and whose mother, Mado Trapet, had family vineyards in in Gevrey Chambertin.

The brothers began experimenting with biodynamic viticulture in 1997, converting fully in 2004. About 50% whole bunch fermentations are used, vintage dependent with 20% new oak on the village wines and up to 55% on the Chambertin.

The Wine

One of this Grand Cru’s finest expressions, called “a model of consistency” by Jasper Morris, the Chambertin parcels from Rossignol-Trapet are in a single centralised block, with the oldest vines dating back to 1919. The domaine owns 1.6 ha of this most famous of all Burgundy’s vineyards, giving them the fourth largest landholding.
