Pierre Meurgey is a fourth generation winemaker now bottling some incredible wines under his own name and is only now being discovered. His father Henri was a courtier and oenologue in the Cote d’Or and was indeed very highly respected by all growers. Winemaking runs deep in Pierre Meurgey's family. For generations, they've been the custodians of Burgundy's winemaking tradition. Pierre's journey is a testament to this enduring legacy.
Pierre is a close friend and joined us for our Burgundy Preview on the 2021 vintage, giving Club Members his insights into the season and the wines. We’re thrilled to represent many of his wines on our portfolio, which easily remain some of the best value in Burgundy.
For Pierre, winemaking is a family affair. Passed down through generations, the art of crafting exceptional Burgundy wines has been a part of his lineage for decades. The Meurgey family's commitment to their vineyards and the winemaking process is a heritage they proudly uphold.
The Wine
Pierre's winemaking philosophy centres around terroir—the unique blend of soil, climate, and geography that gives each Burgundy wine its character. Respecting and preserving this essence is paramount.
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the stars in Pierre's vineyards. These Burgundian classics are carefully tended, resulting in wines of finesse and complexity. Pierre combines traditional winemaking methods with modern precision. Oak barrels play a pivotal role in ageing his wines, enhancing their character. Each bottle is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. Pierre's journey in winemaking is ongoing. With each vintage, he hones his skills, seeking to reveal Burgundy's terroir with greater clarity!
