Lorenza and Marco Pallanti of Castello di Ama have been making wines in Tuscany since the 1970’s situated around the hamlet of Alma, which perches at 450-550 metres above sea level. Regarded for their elegance and freshness, allied to their natural intensity and depth, Castello di Alma has, as Galloni states, “crafted some of the most riveting wines in Tuscany... simply put, there are few estates in Italy at this level.

Decades ahead of their time, they installed temperature-controlled vats, allowing for plot-by-plot vinification. If you want an idea of just how far ahead, most of the Bordelais have only just completed their own such renovations.

Vigneto la Casuccia is the culmination of decades of incredibly hard work, experimentation and an unwavering focus on quality. 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, it is comprised of three individual plots singled out for their exceptional quality.

What the critics say:

96/100Antoni Galloni

"The 2006 Chianti Classico Vigneto la Casuccia (Sangiovese, Merlot) reveals stunning clarity and freshness in its black cherries, violets, minerals and sweet spices. This dense, richly-textured wine possesses staggering richness and elegance along with breathtaking clarity and precision. Notes of leather, smoke, tar and licorice linger on the long, intense finish."

OUR GROWERS

Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama's origins trace back to Etruscan times, a testament to the enduring connection between this land and human creativity. Ama was owned by the Firidolfi family during the Holy Roman Empire. The medieval castle that once graced these grounds fell during the Aragonese invasions in the 15th century. In the early 1700s, new villas rose from the same stones, marking the birth of the Castello di Ama estate.
