One of the joys of this vintage has been exploring the white Burgundy 2020s from producers not on our books, and one domaine that stood out from the rest is Saumaize-Michelin. These wines really are something else! Unsurprisingly I'm not the only one enchanted by this small domaine in the Mâconnais... Neal Martin, Allen Meadows and William Kelley are all worshipping at the altar of Saumaize-Michelin, and it's time we all joined them!
Tasting the range earlier this month I was shocked by how well they stood up to the Cote d'Or, outshining even the odd Puligny 1er Cru! I was most reminded of Chassagne, and whilst Allen Meadows (who rates these very highly, with potential scores up to 92 for the non 1er crus) hasn't reviewed the Cote d'Or 2020 whites yet, these are scores that fall between village and 1er Cru 2019s for some of the village's best domaines, including Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey...
