This wine is offered En Primeur, with an est. delivery in late 2024/early 2025.

Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates and this burgeoning family property is very much at the top of its game, producing wines of exceptional quality: scintillating, proper Burgundies, unusually across both reds and whites.

Features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine Producers and Top 10 Côte de Beaune White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2022 Special Report.

Self-confessed ‘acid freak’ Brian Sieve was especially careful with battonage and lees-stirring of the Chardonnays in 2022, to maintain freshness and verve, noting that it was not a high acid vintage. A little less new oak (not that there is ever more than just enough) and whole bunches in the reds than in the previous solar vintages, plus the gentler acid profile means the wines have a charm and immediacy to rival any vintage we’ve tasted from the domaine.

“This stony site is one of Pommard’s very finest and always produces aromatically complex, powerful and long-lived wines. 100% whole bunch and 1/3 new oak. High-toned, herbal and floral fruit, red plums, raspberries with hints of orange peel, and dried petals.  This is very elegant, with a suave, sweet fruit core of ripe, spiced plums, driven by energetic acidity and long, sappy, refined tannins. Impressive balance and depth.”
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

What the critics say:

92-95/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"Made from 80 year old vines, vinified with all the stems. A richer purple. The bouquet is stunning, offering intensity with elegance. The core of ripe fruit plus the additional perfume from whole bunches. A very fine graceful texture with tensile strength. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted: October 2023. ****"

95/100Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin

"This is bold and forward on the nose with Marasca cherries, mulberries, tea leaves and fine spice. The tannins offer light grip and the acidity races down the back palate. While aromatically open, this is tightly coiled and will benefit from time in the cellar. The final, lasting impression is one of delicious, savory spices."

94/100Charles Curtis MW, Decanter

"This iconic wine of the de Montille portfolio has an exquisitely complex aroma of silky mulberry fruit with suggestions of earth, smoke, and a savoury, gamey edge. The feel is tannic and dense, with impressive length and the energy to balance the rich flavours and textures. The grapes come from the family's two parcels that total more than 1.5 hectares. In 2022, all the grapes were fermented as whole clusters with a firm extraction and ageing in a cask (30% new)."

About Domaine de Montille

Domaine de Montille is now in its ninth generation under the stewardship of sibling duo Étienne & Alix, who have largely remained true to their father’s vision of creating elegant, pure and balanced wines.

In fact Étienne was instrumental in pushing the sustainability of the Domaine by abandoning all chemical fertilisers and herbicides in 1985 and fully transitioning to biodynamic farming in 2005.
