Possibly immortal…This is an epic wine in the making.
Eric Guido, Vinous

Today heralds surely one of the year’s most exciting wine releases: Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino ‘Vigna Montosoli’ 2019.

The ‘Vigna Montosoli’ 2019 is only the third vintage to be released and uniquely (we believe) is the only wine ever to score 100 points (JS) in every year of its production (2015, 2016 & now 2019). Montosoli is Montalcino’s most famous site, which Eric Guido calls "a true Grand Cru of the region, with its own unique soils of rock, mineral-rich marls, loam, quartz, shale and limestone". The production from this area is synonymous with sumptuously smooth and elegant wines, delicate minerality, longevity and striking aromatics, and from the magnificent 2019 vintage which Guido calls "an embarrassment of riches for collectors" represents the highest peaks that Brunello can attain.

Valdicava are firmly in the top echelon of Brunello, with Vincenzo Abruzzese, whose grandfather was one of the original growers, propelling the estate to the stratosphere. Only around 5000 cases are made each year across the portfolio and the dedication to quality is second to none here with Valdicava electing to bottle no Montosoli or Riserva in 2017 or 2018, nor even producing an estate Brunello in 2018! Such an obsession with excellence guarantees that this set of releases is the crème de la crème – well worth the two years wait for a new Valdicava Brunello!

At our 2019 Anteprima tasting we showed the first bottles to leave the estate of Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 2019 and it was so popular we had a raft of pre-orders that will devour most of our allocation. We have been waiting patiently since to offer what is a phenomenal pair of releases from one of the region’s finest producers in one of its best ever vintages.
