The 2021 San Leonardo has been worth the wait. Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga calls it "a marathon runner" — built for forty years in the cellar, yet already expressive and rewarding from the glass today. After a year of extraordinary light in the Trentino valley, the wine shows everything we love about this estate: bright Alpine acidity, that signature Carménère-driven herbal lift, graphite-laced cassis and fully integrated tannins at just 13% alcohol.
Decanter's Raffaele Mosca gives it 97 points, calling it "a multilayered, shape-shifting San Leonardo." Its closest benchmark is the magnificent 2019 — though Anselmo believes 2021 may ultimately prove its equal.
For the fourth edition of Arte a San Leonardo, the estate has collaborated with leading Italian artist Chiara Camoni, whose work Spiritelli di Terra e Vegetazione — organic botanical prints on silk and stoneware sculptures, conceived in direct dialogue with the estate's greenhouse — now adorns the labels of just 999 bottles and 99 magnums worldwide.
