Il Caggio IPSUS Gran Selezione from Giovanni Mazzei continues to set the benchmark for what Sangiovese can achieve.

The critics agree. James Suckling awarded the 2022 98 points, describing "luscious and ripe aromas of plum and sandalwood, with dried flowers and crushed stone." Falstaff scored it 97 points, while Vinous gave it 95 points, noting that it "shows plenty of the year's textural richness right out of the gate" and is "a terrific effort."

IPSUS comes from a single 6.5-hectare clos in Castellina in Chianti, planted on clay, schist and calcareous soils with special massal Sangiovese clones. It is matured across large barrels, tonneaux and ceramic vats, resulting in a finesse rare even by Gran Selezione standards. It has already become a latter-day legend and one of Italy's most collectible and sought-after wines.

Production is tiny, just 6,000 bottles worldwide, and several members of our team have already put their names down for a couple of cases each. We'd strongly recommend you do the same.
