This wine is offered En Primeur, with an est. delivery late 2024/early 2025.
Each of Philippe's wines clearly express their terroirs and Colin treats each plot differently. Two-thirds of his 13 hectares are white, the other one-third red.
Philippe uses minimal chemical intervention, relatively low new oak (20-25%) and just a bit of lees stirring during elevage. His Burgundies are seamless – his understanding of expressing terroir is masterful.
What the critics say:
"Clear pale colour, a little touch of sulphur, but some energy to the fruit nonetheless. Softer pears playing with crisper apples on the palate, a slight vanilla from the wood, which always integrates well chez Philippe Colin. There is enough acidity to drive the length of this wine. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: October 2023."
"The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées Clos St.Abdon 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with crushed stone and Granny Smith apples. Tightly-wound. The palate is well-balanced with prudent use of new oak. The mid-palate has more depth than preceding entry-level cuvées with a pretty, lightly spiced finish."
