A wonderful set of wines here as ever from the Bourgogne Blanc right through to the Grand Cru Chevalier Montrachet. Yields were a little down on a normal vintage, but it was the heat and water stress that really marked the vintage with particular effect on volumes from his Chaumee and En Remilly sites.
2020 was an outstanding vintage for Philippe and his team, that really took advantage of the unique conditions of the vintage to bring out opulence and purity of their fruit whilst maintaining a firm, taut minerality that is synonymous with the Domaine.
The vines are right up against the road where the vineyard flattens out. Not much drainage with large clumps of clay making up the soil. The result is a fatter more generous wine with expressive pure fruit. Yellow stone fruit, apples and ripe grapefruit make up the attack but there is a pretty, elegant finish that reveals floral notes and a salinity on the finish. Nick Daniell, Club Wine Buyer
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru is very attractive on the nose with scents of mirabelle, almond, white chocolate and Granny Smiths, complex and involving. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Plenty of tension and energy in situ, quite saline on the finish with superb persistence. This is one of the best 2020s from Philippe Colin this vintage. 92-94pts Neal Martin
